Bridges to Nowhere canceled....technically
Nytimes so registration is required.
But here's the deal, Republicans in congress had been facing so many questions and criticisms about the money Alaska was to recieve to build two bridges near Ketchikan and Anchorage (described as bridges to nowhere by democrats due to populations involved) that "House and Senate negotiators took the rare step of eliminating a requirement that $442 million be spent to build the two bridges".
Except get this, the state of Alaska STILL gets the $442 million W/ ABSOLUTELY NO STRINGS. The stae can use it for any type of transportation project INCLUDING the bridges.
Soo, when your congressional leaders try to tell you they canceled this but still need to cut back on food stamps and school lunches, remind them that the money still went there. The words just got white-out on the actual bill.
Only in politics.
